I first joined the SCGS in 1972, shortly after the Society started, while I was at the University. I then left the area and went abroad for a few years. On my return I began lessons with Adrian Neville. Some years later family and work commitments increased and my guitar playing ceased. In 2002 the SCGS held a 30th anniversary concert at The Point. I saw a poster and went to the concert. There I met John Coffey and Dave Chillingworth, members who I remembered from my earlier membership. They persuaded me to re-join the Society, which I did. I also renewed my lessons with Adrian and I have been active ever since. For some years I was the Secretary of the Society when Wayne stepped down from the Committee.
